Toyota has announced that its popular SUV, the Fortuner, has achieved the one lakh sales milestone. The announcement comes a few months after the automaker launched the all-new second-generation Fortuner in the market.

Since its launch back in 2009, the Fortuner has quickly established itself as the segment favourite amongst buyers because of its durability and reliability. The announcement of the milestone comes about seven years after the original Fortuner was launched in India.

“Being able to serve more than one lakh happy customers in such a premium and competitive segment is a huge achievement for us. This would not have been possible without the support of our customers who have appreciated the product so much” commented N. Raja, director and senior VP, marketing and sales, Toyota India.

Toyota also revealed that the second-gen model has seen great demand since its launch, with bookings crossing 6,000 units within the first few weeks and sales for the SUV rising to 2,000 units in the month of November.

The Fortuner had reached a waiting period of up to two months for certain variants back in November with dealers requesting customers to buy the 2017-manufactured models to help clear backlogs from the bookings.

Toyota is also set to hike prices across its line-up from January 2017 by up to 3 percent.
