Toyota Etios range crosses 4 lakh sales mark in India

Toyota’s Etios family has crossed a sales milestone of over 4,00,000 units in India. The Etios range consists of the sedan as well as the Liva hatchback and its Cross variant, and Toyota has managed to reach this significant sales number in a span of eight years, with the first Etios being launched in December 2010.

As per Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Liva sales have witnessed a positive growth of 10 percent in the April to September 2018 period as compared to the same timeframe in 2017. Sales estimates by our sister publication, Autocar Professional, suggest Toyota India has sold a total of 406,857 Etios series cars since its launch in the domestic market. The Etios sedan has sold a total of 247,608 units (74,813 petrol and 172,795 diesel) while the Liva has sold a total of 159,249 units (56,176 petrol and 103,073 diesel). This reveals that a staggering 67 percent of Etios’ sold in India have been diesel engine variants.

Toyota has, over the years, consistently refreshed both the models while also setting a safety benchmark in the industry. The Etios series has been the first in its segment to standardise dual SRS airbags and ABS with EBD across all grades, front seatbelts with pre-tensioner and force limiter, and Isofix child seat locks for all models and all grades. When subjected to the Global NCAP crash tests, the made-in India Etios got a respectable four-star rating.

Commenting on this milestone, N Raja, deputy managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “We have been continuously striving to upgrade our products as per the evolving needs in the market and offer the best features to our valued customers. We are happy to have sustained the positive response for all variants of Etios series since launch. The Etios series has stood the test of time over the years backed by a unique combination of Toyota’s global promise of quality, durability and reliability. It caters to the needs of Indian families as the most dependable vehicle with best in class quality, safety, comfort, fuel economy and performance. It is our endeavour to set the benchmark in customer delight and we will keep innovating to offer the best products and services to our customer base.”
