Top-spec Thar diesel-manual now costs Rs 39,000 less than the Gurkha.

Force Motors has revised the pricing of the Gurkha SUV, with the amount now being set at Rs 14.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This marks a price hike of Rs 39,000 for the off-road-focused SUV, which is available in only one variant.

Force Gurkha: now more expensive than Mahindra Thar

As mentioned above, the new price means that the Gurkha is now more expensive by Rs 39,000. The SUV was launched back in September 2021 and was priced at Rs 13.59 lakh. However, Force Motors did hike the price (by Rs 51,000) of the SUV in January 2022 to Rs 14.10 lakh. While it is not uncommon for manufacturers to hike prices at the start of the year, this current hike marks the second price uptick for the Gurkha in just a few months. Although the company hasn’t revealed the exact reasons, the hikes could be attributed to rising input costs and the semiconductor crisis.

Now being priced at Rs 14.49 lakh, the Force Gurkha is more expensive than even the top-spec Mahindra Thar LX diesel-manual hardtop, which costs Rs 14.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Force Gurkha: powertrain details

The Force Gurkha is powered by a 2.6-litre, turbo-diesel engine that produces 91hp and 250Nm. This engine comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox only, with no automatic option on offer.

It also gets four-wheel drive with low range and manual locking front and rear differentials. Force claims that the new Gurkha can traverse slopes with a grade of up to 35 degrees and has a water wading depth of 700mm, owing to the snorkel.

Upcoming five-door Force Gurkha

Force Motors is currently working on a five-door iteration of the Gurkha. The model has been spotted undergoing pre-production testing multiple times over the past year. The five-door Gurkha will be based on a stretched version of the regular Gurkha’s C in C ladder-frame architecture and is expected to be offered in both 6- and 7-seater versions, with captain’s seats in the third row. However, the SUV is expected to be mechanically identical to the three-door Gurkha. The price announcement for the 5-door Force Gurkha will likely be around Diwali.
