New Skoda Superb vs Toyota Camry: Specifications comparison

Based on VW’s new MQB platform, the new Superb is not only lighter than its outgoing version, but is also larger with a longer wheelbase. The styling is more aggressive than before and Skoda has for the first time introduced the Superb with the range-topping Laurent and Klement (L&K) trim in India. Prices for the range-topping Skoda sedan start at Rs 23.11 lakh for the petrol and Rs 26.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the diesel variants.

The Camry has been in India since 2012, before being joined by its hybrid sibling in 2013. The car underwent a facelift in 2015 with styling changing to match the company’s new design language. Lacking a diesel engine, it’s available as a petrol or a petrol-electric hybrid. Prices for the Camry start at Rs 29.11 lakh for the standard petrol and Rs 32.23 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the hybrid.

Dimensions

In terms of dimensions and weight, the new Superb is both heavier and larger than the Camry. Measuring 4,861mm in length, the Superb is 11mm longer than the Camry which measures in at 4,850mm. The Superb is also significantly wider than the Camry with a width of 1,864mm as against 1,825mm. The Skoda measures 1,483mm in height, while the Toyota measures 1,480mm.

The Superb has been designed with a wheelbase of 2,841mm, 66mm longer than the Camry’s, which has a wheelbase of 2,775mm. This could translate to a spacious interior especially for the rear passengers of the new Superb.

The petrol Camry is the lighter of the two cars with a kerb weight of 1,490kg, 4kg less than the base petrol Superb that is equipped with a manual gearbox. The automatic gearbox equipped petrol Superb weighs 1,540kg. The Camry hybrid is significantly heavier than its petrol sibling at 1,635kg with the additional weight down to the hybrid system. The diesel Superb has a kerb weight of 1,565kg.
