These are the first spy pictures of SsangYong’s Rexton II SUV being tested near Chakan area in Maharashtra sent by our reader Ketan Doundkar.
The Rexton is a typical old-school SUV based on the tried and tested mechanicals of the first-generation Mercedes M-Class. The Rexton II (codenamed Y300) is the one that Mahindra will bring to the Indian market.
Power comes from a 2.7-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel motor churning out 162bhp and 34.8kgm of torque via a five speed automatic gearbox. The Rexton is a proper off-roader complete with a permanent all-wheel-drive system, decent ground clearance and traction control. It uses a body-on-frame chassis and the suspension is all-independent with double wishbones up front and a multi-link setup at the rear.
Mahindra will bring the Rexton II in India after it launches the SsangYong Korando SUV. It will compete with the likes of the Honda CRV, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Outlander. Expect the Rexton II to hit our shores next year.
