Renault Group is targeting 2 billion euros in annual exports from India by 2030, as it looks to expand the country’s role in its global operations. The export plan will span not just vehicles but also components, technologies and engineering services. The upcoming Bridger SUV will be the first model designed, built and exported globally from India under the company’s FuturEReady plan.

Export strategy and India’s role

The exports will not include vehicle shipments to Europe. “In the 2 billion euro [plan], there is no export of vehicles to Europe,” Renault CEO Francois Provost told Autocar India.
Instead, the company will focus on exporting vehicles to other markets while scaling shipments of components, technologies and engineering services. “I see potential for exports from Chennai for vehicles, but I see a lot of potential for parts, components, technologies, R&D,” Provost said.
He added that India’s role will extend beyond manufacturing, with the country supporting global programmes in areas such as connectivity and software. “What is embedded in our plan is not just cars, but a lot of technologies and components,” he said.
Provost also highlighted India’s importance within Renault’s global footprint. “India represents more than one-third of the global market where we operate. Being competitive here will give us strength globally.”
Wider India strategy

The export push is part of Renault’s broader India strategy, which includes a seven-model product expansion and a multi-powertrain approach spanning internal combustion, hybrid, CNG and electric vehicles.
The company is targeting localisation levels of up to 90 percent to improve cost competitiveness and reduce supply chain risks. India is also being positioned as a manufacturing and engineering hub, supported by Renault’s Chennai facility, which has an installed capacity of 4,80,000 units, nearly triple the current production.
“These will help make India one of Renault’s top three markets. We are targeting consistent year-on-year growth and positioning India at the centre of Renault Group’s global operations,” said Provost.
