Datsun is all set to launch the Redigo on June 7, 2016. The carmaker had earlier announced that the new hatchback would be priced starting from Rs 2.5 lakh and go up to Rs 3.5 lakh for the top-end variant.

However, Datsun India’s website currently shows the starting price of the Redigo as Rs 2.39 lakh. This could be a technical glitch or human error as the carmaker was to reveal the prices on the day of the launch, along with variant and equipment details. Pre-bookings for the Datsun Redigo have begun with a down payment of Rs 5,000. There's also the option of booking the hatchback online through Snapdeal.

While the earlier price of Rs 2.5 lakh was considered to be aggressive, this revelation indicates that the hatchback will undercut the recently facelifted Maruti Alto 800 by Rs 10,000. The Alto, which received a mid-cycle refresh recently, has until now seen serious competition only in the form of the Kwid.

The Redigo shares much of its styling with the concept car which made its debut at Auto Expo 2014. The edgy styling is further complemented by the high ground clearance which is a welcome move given the Indian road conditions. The hatchback is based on the same Renault-Nissan Alliance’s Common Module Family (CMF) engineering architecture as the Kwid but misses out on its SUV-like cues.

Unable to find much success with the Go, Datsun will be banking on the Redigo to revive its sales figures in the country.
