Porsche has recalled all 11,300 Panameras it has built and sold worldwide over a suspected fault with the seatbelt tensioners.

According to the US's road safety commission, the NHTSA, "if the Panamera's front seats are adjusted towards an extreme position, it is possible that the function of the locking mechanism of the seatbelt mount can no longer be guaranteed".

Therefore, in the event of a crash, the seatbelts “may not provide adequate protection for the seat occupant, which may increase the risk of injury or death", meaning they could become detached.

Panamera owners can take their car to their Porsche dealership to have an additional locking element fitted. All Porsche Centres in India have contacted their respective customers. A senior spokesperson from Porsche India has revealed that a flawless process is in place and it requires a minor repair and can be rectified in a very short time. The respective spare parts are available in all Porsche service centres in sufficient quantities.

There are no reports on any incidents and this is a preventative measure carried out at no cost to the customer.
