The first reportedly official images of the Porsche 911 R have surfaced online. The new 911 R is scheduled to be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

Designed to pay homage to the original model of the same name, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2017, the 911 R has been designed to focus on simple driving pleasures. The car has not been engineered to set competitive lap times or provide sensible daily transport, but has instead been maximised for driver interaction and feel.

The Porsche 911 R is powered by the same normally aspirated 4.0-litre flat six petrol engine that powers the GT3 RS. The engine produces 493bhp and 53.08kgm of torque. The leaked images, first published by a Dutch news website, also confirm that instead of being offered with the PDK automatic, which has become a staple of the 911, the car will be offered with a manual transmission only.

The leaked images also show that the 911 R receives a mild body kit, though without the fixed rear wing of the more hardcore GT3 RS. The car also gets a racing look with white paintwork and racing stripes. It is slated to go on sale in international markets early next year.
