Mercedes has revealed the long-wheelbase (LWB) version of the new E-class sedan at the Beijing motor show 2016. The wheelbase has been extended by 140mm and has resulted in an extra 134mm of rear legroom over the standard wheelbase E-class.
The long-wheelbase sedan’s length now measures 5,063mm as against the standard sedans' 4,923mm. Interestingly, the increased length makes the long wheelbase E-class nearly as long as the standard S-class which is 5,116mm long.
The cabin has also been updated with the rear occupants getting a revised centre armrest, along with the option of having it customised with features such as wireless phone charger and a touchscreen display.
While Mercedes did not reveal any details regarding the car’s engine, it did reveal that the car would be badged 'E 200 L', indicating the possibility of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine will be paired to Mercedes’ new nine-speed automatic gearbox.
As with the standard E-class, the LWB sedan will get a host of safety systems such as autonomous emergency braking and attention assist as standard. In addition, the car can also be fitted with remote parking and semi-autonomous driving with steering assist up to speed of 130kph.
The company will bring the E-class LWB to China later this year. There have been plans to launch the sedan in other global markets as well, with India set to receive the model in 2017.
