Maruti Suzuki has issued a recall of some of its hatchback vehicles over a possible defect in the steering column.

The recall affects only models of the Ertiga, Swift, Swift Dzire and A-star that had been manufactured between October 19 and October 26, 2013.

As part of the recall, Maruti Suzuki will replace the steering column on cars where it is found to be defective, and has already dispatched the new steering columns to its dealer workshops. Maruti dealers will contact the owners in order to conduct this exercise.

Additionally, the company has also urged owners of Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and A-star models purchased after October 19, 2013 to check on the company website if their car is part of the recall. This can be done by following the link on the home page, and entering the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14-digit, alpha-numeric number) in the field provided. The chassis number is embossed on the hatchback vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicle invoice and registration documents. Owners can also contact a Maruti Suzuki workshop to ascertain if their vehicle is eligible for recall.

Maruti has further stated that this recall is limited to the above mentioned vehicles only and does not pertain to any other hatchback model sold in India or in international markets.
