India’s largest passenger carmaker Maruti Suzuki, which enjoys an over-48 percent market share in the passenger vehicle segment, today announced its foray into the commercial segment in India with the launch of the Super Carry LCV.

Deliveries for the Super Carry are due to start by end of August, 2016, said the company. To begin with, the vehicle will be sold in three cities – Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Ludhiana where it is priced at Rs 4.03 lakh, Rs 4.11 lakh, Rs 4.01 lakh respectively (all prices, ex-showroom), through the carmaker’s newly established commercial sales channel.

The Super Carry has a payload capacity of 740kg, a wheelbase of 2,110mm, and is powered by the same diesel engine that does duty in the company’s Celerio hatchback. The two-cylinder unit is capable of producing 32hp with a torque rating of 75Nm and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The carmaker claims the Super Carry will return a fuel efficiency of 22.07kpl. The engine is a detuned version of the unit in the Celerio, where it has an output of 47.5hp and 125Nm of torque.

The LCV comes with a flat and extended co-passenger seat and features include mobile charging socket, digital clock and the vehicle even has a provision for a stereo. The vehicle gets front disc brakes in order to enhance the safety quotient and McPherson strut suspension for better ride and handling.

Maruti Suzuki says it has invested about Rs 300 crore in the Super Carry project. The LCV, which goes up against the Tata Ace, is offered with a warranty of 2 years or 72,000km (whichever is earlier).
