The calendar 2010 has been a productive year for the premium luxury car manufacturers. The major players in this segment, Mercedes, BMW and Audi – all have registered record sales figures. BMW tops the luxury segment with sales figure of 6246 units in 2010, which is an increase of around 70% over the previous year. BMW launched two important vehicles in the year 2010 - the new generation 5-Series saloon (F10) and the corporate editions of its 3-Series saloon, the latter was an instant hit in the market. This has helped BMW secure the top spot amongst the luxury car makers for 2010. Mercedes-Benz takes second place by selling 3250 units in the year 2010, a sales jump of 80% over the previous year. 2010 saw introductions of the all new E-Class and revamped S-Class saloons. In addition, the German giant also introduced newer hi-powered and fuel efficient variants of the C-Class and the GL-Class luxury SUV. Audi India too has recorded a sales growth of 81% over the previous year, the manufacturer sold 3003 units in 2010. The Indian market saw introductions of the Audi A6 2.7 TDI 2-wheel drive variant as well as powerful variants of the A4 saloon equipped with a 3.0-litre diesel engine and the Q7 luxury SUV with a 4.2-litre diesel engine.
