Jaguar has launched the second-generation XF sedan in India, with prices starting at Rs 49.5 lakh for the base Pure trim with diesel engine going upto Rs 62.10 lakh for the top-spec diesel Portfolio trim.

The new XF marks the debut of JLR’s brand new 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine capable of producing 177hp and 430Nm of torque. This engine is available on Pure, Prestige and top-spec Portfolio trims.

A 2.0-litre petrol engine, which produces 237hp and 340Nm of torque  is standard on the Prestige and Portfolio trims. Jaguar claims, the XF with the diesel engine can go from 0-100kph in 8.1 seconds, while the one powered by the petrol engine can do the same in seven seconds. An eight-speed automatic gearbox sends power to the rear wheels.

Jaguar has also equipped the new XF with ‘Jaguar Drive Control’, which allows one to select between four driving modes - Standard, Eco, Dynamic or Rain/Ice/Snow. The modes alter the way the steering, throttle and the gearbox work.

With a wheelbase which is 51mm longer than before, the new XF offers 15mm more rear legroom, 24mm more rear knee room and 27mm more rear headroom than before. The car also features as much as 70 percent of aluminium in its construction, which the carmaker claims makes it 190kg lighter and nearly 30 percent stiffer than its predecessor.

In features, the Pure trim gets an eight-inch touch screen, 17-inch alloys, bi-functional Xenon headlamps and electronically-adjustable front seats. In addition to the Pure trim features, the carmaker offers perforated leather seats, and a memory function for the driver seat and steering wheel in the Prestige trim. The Portfolio trim gets a larger 10.2-inch touch screen with InControl Touch Pro, 18-inch wheels and 14-way adjustable electric front seats among other features.

The second-generation XF will go up against Volvo’s S90, as well as its German rivals – the Mercedes E-class and the BMW 5-series – the new versions of which are due sometime next year. Another rival is the Audi A6, whose update isn’t expected before 2018. Jaguar is also readying the India launch of its first SUV the F-Pace in the coming months.
