Jaguar will unveil its BMW 3-series rival, the XE sedan in a few hours in London, UK. The new Jaguar XE will get its full motor show debut in Paris next month.
Coming hot on the heels of the recently launched Land Rover Discovery Sport, the XE has been spotted many times through the course of its development programme, following an initial preview at the Geneva motor show earlier this year.
Following Jaguar's nomenclature for its current model range, three models of the XE are likely to be available, with a standard XE sitting below a sportier XE-S and a even more focused XER-S.
One of the launch engines is expected to be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine from the Ingenium range.
At the other end of the scale, the XER-S is said to have targeted a top speed of 300kph. Higher-performance versions of the car will also be available with the same 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine found in the Jaguar F-type. In V6S form, that engine produces 375bhp.
Underpinning the new model will be Jaguar's new architecture, with aluminum making up 75 per cent of the XE's body structure. Jaguar officials have said the architecture allows it to achieve low weight while retaining strength.

Also included in the XE will be a latest-generation electrically assisted steering system, as well as a new All Surface Progress Control programme, which Jaguar claims is a world-first technology. The system is said to "gain traction with far less drama than a human driver and without the driver using the pedals".
Jaguar has high hopes for the new model, with JLR group strategy director Adrian Hallmark telling our sister magazine Autocar UK: "The headlines of [the XE] must be innovative technology, the most desirable design and a driving sensation that makes the car feel more alive than anything the opposition has to offer".
Jaguar will bring the XE sedan in India sometime next year.
