India-spec BMW i7 M70 details revealed; launch soon

    The most powerful electric BMW ever, the i7 M70 is powered by a 660hp twin motor setup.

    BMW is all set to expand the line-up of its flagship electric sedan, the i7, with a new range-topping M70 variant. We’ve managed to get our hands on the details of the new BMW i70 M70, which is incidentally the most powerful electric BMW yet, and here’s what you can expect from it. 

    1. i7 M70 to be offered in 9 exterior colour schemes
    2. 13 interior upholstery options available
    3. 101.7kWh battery provides a claimed range of up to 560km (WLTP)

    India-spec BMW i7 M70 exterior

    Being an M model, the M70 gets a number of M-specific touches that make it stand out from the rest of the i7 range. These include M front and rear bumpers, M side skirts, M mirrors, 21-inch M alloys with blue brake calipers, black front grille with an M badge, gloss black window line trim and an M rear spoiler. All these come as standard, apart from the rear spoiler, which is a no-cost option. 

    In what’s unique for a BMW model, the i7 M70 comes finished in a two-tone paint job and there are a number of colour options for buyers to choose from. Standard paint options for the lower half of the body include Oxide Grey, Aventurine Red, Tanzanite Blue and Dravit Grey, all of which can be had with a Black Sapphire upper half. The latter three colour options can also be had with an Oxide Grey top half, and this option is also available with a Black Sapphire body colour. 

    And for those who want their i7 M70 to really stand out, BMW is offering a Liquid Copper and Black Sapphire colour scheme, which is a Rs 13 lakh optional extra.

    The India-spec BMW i7 M70 will also be available with a plethora of interior upholstery schemes, with five being standard options and another seven being paid options. The standard interior schemes are Leather Merino Tartufo (tan), Leather Merino Mocha (dark brown), Leather Merino Amarone (dark red), Leather Merino Black and Leather Merino Smoke White.

    Meanwhile, the optional interior schemes include Leather Merino Smoke White with Cashmere Wool, Leather Merino Black with Cashmere Wool, Leather Merino with exclusive contents Tartufo, Leather Merino with exclusive contents Smoke White, Leather Merino with exclusive contents Black, Leather Merino with exclusive contents Amarone and Leather Merino with exclusive contents Mocha.

    There are three options for the interior trim as well. Standard options include ‘Fineline’ Black fine-wood trim with a high gloss metal effect and Oak mirror finish fine-wood trim with grey metallic high gloss. The only paid option is the Carbon fibre M interior trim with silver stitching and a piano black finish, and this is priced at Rs 1.5 lakh.

    As for features, standard equipment on the BMW i7 M70 includes an M interior package which brings in an M steering, M footrests and M Powerboost animation for the instrument cluster. Other features carried over from the i7 xDrive60 include dual screens up front, executive lounge seating, heated, ventilated and massaging seats all around, the rear seat theatre screen, a Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound audio system, four-zone auto climate control, soft close doors and much more. 

    India-spec BMW i7 M70 powertrain, battery and range

    The India-spec i7 M70 will use a twin motor setup that puts out 660hp and 1100Nm, which is said to be good enough for a 0-100kph time of 3.7sec and a top speed of 250kph. Powering the motors is a 101.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is claimed to provide this luxurious electric sedan with a range of up to 560km (WLTP). Charging can be performed at up to 22kW on an AC system, which will charge the battery from 0-100 percent in about 5 and a half hours and 195kW on a DC set-up, that’ll top up the battery from 10-80 percent in just 34 minutes. 

    India-spec BMW i7 M70: launch details, expected price and rivals

    While a launch date is yet to be specified, expect the BMW i7 M70 to launch here fairly soon. As for the price, the i7 xDrive60 is currently priced at Rs 1.95 crore and given that the M70 packs in more performance, expect it to cost a good chunk more. Once launched, it’ll rival Mercedes’ range-topping electric sedan, the AMG EQS 53 4Matic+, which costs Rs 2.45 crore.
