The immensely popular Ford EcoSport may have been on sale only for less than a year but it has already received its second price hike since launch. Prices have been raised effective January 1, 2014, and this follows a similar increment announced in September last year. This time around prices have been raised between Rs 22,000 and Rs 37,000 depending on the engine option and the variant you choose.

Interestingly, with the latest price increase, the top end Titanium and Titanium (O) variants of the EcoSport now cost as much as Rs 75,000 more than they did at launch in June 2013. Even the base Ambiente and mid-level Trend version are costlier by Rs 64,000.

Also, if you are keen to book an EcoSport, you will have to put your plans on hold atleast for the time being. Ford has stopped taking fresh bookings for its mini-SUV as it wants to clear some of the backlog of orders. Some Ford dealers have confirmed bookings are likely to restart only in the latter half of February.

The new Taigun is VW's answer to the Ford EcoSport.

The concept shown in Sao Paulo came with a 108bhp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine and this motor could be a possibility for India.

VW is also developing a new family of diesel engines and a 1.4-litre, three-cylinder diesel could be India-bound on the Taigun.
