The 1.0-litre Redigo.

Datsun will add a new automatic variant to the Redigo line up towards the tail end of January 2018. Like its cousin from Renault, the Kwid AMT, the Redigo automatic will also come equipped with a 5-speed AMT gearbox on the 1.0-litre engine option.

What will be interesting to see is if the Redigo AMT will make use of a conventional gear lever or a rotary controller for the gearbox as on the Kwid AMT. Notably, the Kwid’s arrangement doesn’t allow for the option of a manual mode for gearshifts, something offered on rivals like the Alto AMT.

Expect Datsun to price the Redigo automatic at a premium of around Rs 30,000 to the equivalent manual model variant. Prices for the Redigo AMT should start at Rs 3.9 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom, Delhi) and top-off at about Rs 4.1 lakh.
