Dacia has unveiled the Hipster Concept, a new prototype that shows the brand's future direction of light, basic, and affordable electric mobility. This concept is a design and engineering study and could translate into a production model. It highlights Dacia's goal of making electric driving more affordable.

  1. Dacia aims to make EV ownership more attainable
  2. Ultra-light, four-seat EV focused on essentials and everyday city use
  3. Minimal features, small battery, interior layout to reduce lifecycle emissions

Dacia Hipster EV: Core specs and design philosophy

Light, tiny, four-seat EV aimed at low cost and real city use.

Under 800kg and 3.0 metres long, the Hipster keeps weight down, so a small battery does the job.  Dacia says the Hipster's battery and motor are “sized as needed” and also mentioned that cutting mass and materials could halve the car’s total lifecycle impact.

The target is under GBP 15,000 (about Rs 17.66 lakh), placing it against entry-level EVs in Europe. The idea is to use simple packaging and hardware, keeping costs in check without adding features that don’t help daily use.

The tall glass, short overhangs and boxy shape are used to carve space where it counts for city driving. The upright body fits four adults and has a useful fold-down boot.

Dacia Hipster EV: Minimalist features

Stripped-back cabin, phone-as-screen, fabric straps, unpainted panels keep weight low.

The Hipster trims out extras to keep weight and price down, using lightweight seats with exposed frames and mesh covers, sliding manual side windows and a simple dock where a phone handles maps, music, and the digital key.

There’s no built-in infotainment screen or complex electronics, which makes repairs and maintenance simple.

Outside, fabric straps replace conventional door handles and many panels are left unpainted. This  reduces parts, making the body easier to build and simpler to repair.

The Hipster concept is designed from the ground up to be efficient. It counters the trend of rising car costs and weight by focusing on only what drivers actually need.
