Chevrolet has released a first set of images and information for the updated Camaro coupé. The Chevrolet Camaro is an iconic American muscle car that takes on the Ford Mustang – which is also on sale in India.

The refreshed Camaro now gets a heavily updated look up front, and is now more distinctive and performance-oriented, according to the American carmaker. The car's new fascia has been designed with multiple vents channelling the air to the engine. This new facelift also gets Chevrolet’s Flowtie which improves the airflow to the engine by an extra 2.5 cubic inches per minute.

The Camaro's SS trim now come with a 10-speed automatic gearbox with custom launch control and lock features – a six-speed manual option is also on offer. The Camaro 1LE gets a new four-cylinder turbo engine, which makes 275hp and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a specially tuned suspension setup. The car also gets new track mode with performance readouts and shift point lights.

The headlights now get LED treatment and the Camaro also gets new 20-inch alloy wheels, while on the inside, the Camaro gets new ambient lighting and an updated infotainment system. Higher variants of the car get a reverse camera integrated with the rear-view mirror.

Chevrolet displayed the Camaro at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Its parent company – General Motors – currently manufacturers the Beat Essentia sedan and the Beat hatchback in India. However, these models are export-only, after the automaker stopped selling its products in the Indian market about a year ago.
