The new BMW X3 will make its public debut on June 26 at the automaker’s Spartanburg plant in the US. Based on the company's CLAR modular platform, the new SUV is expected to be lighter, roomier and more efficient than its predecessor.

The upcoming X3 will be available with multiple engine options, ranging from the new B48, 2.0-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder unit to the B58, 3.0-litre, turbocharged inline-six. It will also be offered with the latest hybrid powertrain option that combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor.

Some performance variants of the third-generation X3 are also lined up, such as X3 M40i and X3 M. The latter, spied in prototype form, is similar to the company's current M division models like the M3 and M4. It will use a straight-six turbo with 425hp.

Though the profile remains largely similar to the old model, reshaped bumpers and more muscular rear haunches will be the defining features in the new X3. The signature kidney grille at the front will be flanked by a pair of sharper LED headlamps.

Though the new model is expected to go on sale globally in 2018, the company is yet to announce if and when it will be available in India. BMW recently revised its line-up in India with the X3 now no longer available with its range topping in-line six-cylinder diesel engine equipped M-Sport variant.
