Maruti has revealed details of its upcoming hatchback, the Baleno ahead of its official launch on October 26, 2015. As mentioned in our earlier reports, the Baleno will be sold via Maruti’s Nexa premium outlets and will rival the likes of the Hyundai i20 and the Honda Jazz.
The Maruti Baleno will come with two engines, the 1.2-litre 83.1bhp petrol (manual and CVT gearbox option) and the 1.3-litre 73.9bhp diesel (manual gearbox only).
It measures 3,995mm in length, 1,745mm in width, 1,500mm in height and sports a 2,520 mm wheelbase. With a 37-litre fuel tank, the diesel car weighs in at 960kg, while the petrol manual variant weighs a maximum of 890kg. This means that the Baleno is lighter than the Swift hatchback even though it is dimensionally bigger.
Maruti has given the Baleno 185-section, 15-inch wheels as standard, with the top-end variant getting bigger 16-inch alloys. The Baleno’s exteriors will be available in six colour options. As far as safety features go, all variants of the Baleno come with ABS, EBD and dual front airbags as standard.
