The final shortlist for the Women’s World Car of the Year 2019 has been revealed. The winners will be announced at the upcoming Dubai International show that is being held from November 12-16, 2019.
The finalists have been divided into individual categories – Budget, Family, Green, Luxury, Performance, SUV/Crossover and the Women’s World Car of the Year 2019.
Starting with the Budget category, the three finalists are the Skoda Scala, Kia Xceed and the Renault Clio. In the Family segment, BMW’s 3 Series will take on the Mazda 3 and the new Toyota Corolla for the award. Cars in the Green car category include the Audi e-tron Quattro, Kia Soul EV and the much-talked about Tesla Model 3.
Nominees in the Luxury category are a mix of luxury sports cars and SUVs, with names including BMW’s new 8 Series and range-topping X7 SUV, and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe. The final shortlist for the Performance category includes the all-new Toyota Supra, the Porsche 911 and the new Mercedes-AMG A35/A45. Rounding out the individual categories is the SUV/Crossover, in which nominees include the India-bound Citroen C5 Aircross, Range Rover Evoque and the Lexus UX.
Moving to the top honours, 14 cars are set to compete with the list comprising of the Audi e-tron, BMW 3 Series, Citroen C5 Aircross, Ford Escape/Kuga, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Xceed, Porsche 911, Range Rover Evoque, Renault Clio, Lexus UX, Mazda 3, Tesla Model 3, Toyota Corolla and the Volvo S60.
As before, judges for the 2019 edition of the Women’s World Car of the Year include prominent female women motoring writers from around the world including Autocar India’s own Renuka Kirpalani, who heads the Voting Management Team this year.
Besides the above mentioned categories, the awards also feature two additional categories – The Holly Reich Dream Car Award, named in honour of a judge in Women’s World Car of the Year who passed away in 2016, and The Woman of Worth Award, which goes to the woman whom judges feel has contributed significantly to the motoring industry or to motorsport.
