The Toyota Innova Crysta facelift will soon be unveiled internationally. This will be the first major update to the popular MPV since its world premiere in 2016. We tell you more about it.

  • Updated Innova Crysta to get styling tweaks.
  • Engine options for the Indian market likely to remain the same.
  • Innova Crysta facelift to launch in India sometime next year.

What’s new on the 2021 Innova Crysta facelift?

While the overall shape of the Innova Crysta remains the same, the updated MPV gets a slightly larger grille, now finished in black with a thick chrome outline. The grille has five horizontal slats instead of the two chrome-finished ones earlier, and while the size of the headlights remains the same, they now get chrome extensions that merge into the grille.

Upfront, there’s an all-new, more aggressive bumper that has a more complex design than its predecessor. It gets contrast black shade for the chin and the fog lamps are now vertically housed in a thick, triangular black surround.

The 2021 Toyota Innova Crysta also gets a new alloy wheel design that will be sold either with a standard silver finish or a darker look, depending on the variant. There are no major changes expected at the back.

A key point to note here is that the model shown is most likely the Indonesian-spec car, sold there as the Kijang Innova, and the India-bound Innova Crysta could have minor styling tweaks and more chrome to suit local tastes.

What engines will power the updated Innova Crysta?

The Innova Crysta facelift is expected to be launched in Indonesia first and it is unlikely that there will be any major changes to the engine line-up. The Indonesia-spec Kijang Innova comes with either a 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.4-litre diesel engine and both powerplants are expected to continue as is with the updated model.

As far as India goes, Toyota only just updated the Innova Crysta’s engine line-up earlier this year to comply with the BS6 emissions norms that came into effect on April 1, 2020. As a result, it too is unlikely to change with the introduction of the facelift. The Innova Crysta in India is available with either a 2.4-litre diesel or a 2.7-litre petrol engine.

When will the Toyota Innova Crysta facelift launch in India?

The 2021 Innova Crysta facelift will launch in India sometime next year, after the market introduction of the updated Fortuner SUV, which is expected in the coming months.
