Tata Motors has confirmed in its latest teaser that the BS6-compliant Harrier, set to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, will get a power upgrade. The 2.0-litre Kryotec engine will make 170hp in BS6 spec, up from the current BS4 version's 140hp. The 170hp derivative of the 2.0-litre diesel engine will also be offered in its larger sibling, the Gravitas.

The BS6-spec Tata will also see the much-awaited addition of an automatic transmission option. The automatic transmission will be a 6-speed unit from Hyundai. While Tata is set to showcase the Harrier diesel-auto in a new fully loaded trim, it has also confirmed that the engine-gearbox will be available in a choice of three trim levels. The diesel-automatic Harrier will be available in mid-level XMA, XZA and the fully loaded XZA+. This means the XZ+ variants will be the new top trim, and will get a panoramic sunroof. In addition to this, the Harrier XZA+ will receive larger 18-inch alloy wheels as compared to the current SUV’s 17-inch alloys on the XZ trim.

Tata is set to showcase a wide range of its products at the Auto Expo, including the Harrier’s larger 7-seat sibling, the Gravitas, and the brand’s all-new micro-SUV based on the H2X concept that made its debut last year. The Tata Harrier sits in the heavily contested mid-size SUV segment, and rivals the Hyundai Creta (the second gen of which will be revealed at the Expo), the MG Hector, Kia Seltos, Renault Captur and Nissan Kicks.
