The 2025 Sierra will go against the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate and other midsize SUVs.

After releasing many teasers and showcasing several concepts over the years at motor shows, Tata Motors has officially unveiled the new Sierra SUV in India. This marks the return of the iconic Sierra nameplate, which was discontinued in 2003.

  1. New Sierra SUV prices will be out on November 25
  2. 2025 Sierra has a boxy design and a 3-screen layout
  3. It will debut Tata’s new 1.5L naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines

New Tata Sierra exterior design

A boxy silhouette and a mix of simple and contemporary elements

Tata Sierra yellow

The Tata Sierra combines a boxy design with modern elements, giving it a distinctly contemporary look. At the front, a contrasting gloss-black panel neatly integrates the connected LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), projector LED headlights and the Tata logo. The bumper adds a rugged touch with its gloss-black accents and faux silver skid plate, while two pixel-shaped LED fog lamps on either side complete the clean and sophisticated appearance.

The Sierra’s modern-looking profile is emphasised by flush-type door handles, which enhance its appeal. While it doesn’t have the curved glass windows of the original Sierra, the black-painted section between the B- and C-pillars creates a similar visual effect. Other highlights include 19-inch alloy wheels, black body cladding over the wheel arches and doors, black outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) and black roof rails, which contribute to its bold, contemporary stance.

At the rear, the Sierra features a full-width LED tail-light bar that gives the back a clean look. The rear bumper mirrors the front, with gloss-black accents and a faux silver skid plate that breaks up the minimalistic design.

New Tata Sierra interior design and features

Three screens on the dashboard and plenty of features

Inside, the Sierra features three screens on the dashboard: one for the driver’s display and two for infotainment, which can synchronise content between them. It comes with the same 4-spoke steering wheel as the Tata Curvv, with an illuminated Tata logo and touch-sensitive controls.

The cabin has a black and grey theme, and the massive panoramic sunroof that stretches to the C-pillar gives it an airy feel. It gets 5 seats inside with a dual-tone beige-and-grey theme. All seats get adjustable headrests and 3-point seatbelts.

Other feature highlights include dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, powered and ventilated front seats, rear sunshades, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS and an electronic parking brake.

New Tata Sierra engine options

Debuts two new 1.5-litre engines for Tata Motors

The new Tata Sierra will debut the carmaker’s flagship 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine that was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. This engine will also be introduced in the larger Tata Harrier and Tata Safari on December 9. It will generate around 170hp and 280Nm and will be available with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Moreover, Tata Motors will offer a derivative of the aforementioned turbopetrol mill with the new Sierra – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol powertrain, which will allow the company to price the SUV aggressively.

A 1.5-litre diesel engine, already used in the Tata Curvv and Tata Nexon, will also be available. It will produce 118hp and 260Nm and come with both manual and automatic transmission options.
