Maruti Suzuki has updated its budget hatchbacks, the Celerio and Celerio X, with added safety kit to conform to the new safety norms that are in place, and to those set to roll in, in the coming months. Prices for the updated Maruti Suzuki Celerio range from Rs 4.31 lakh for the base LXi trim and go up to Rs 5.48 lakh for the top ZXi (O) AMT. Prices for the updated Celerio X range from Rs 4.80 lakh to Rs 5.57 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Celerio and its crossover-styled sibling now get ABS with EBD, a speed alert system, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and rear parking sensors as standard. The hatchbacks feature no other changes, in terms of cosmetics or equipment. Both cars were previously available with only a driver airbag as standard.

As before, both models share the same 68hp, 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor, with the standard Celerio additionally offered with a factory CNG kit. The engine is paired to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox (CNG is manual only).

These updates make the Celerio and Celerio X the latest cars from Maruti Suzuki to offer the additional safety systems. The carmaker had previously updated the Eeco people mover with the same set of safety systems as well as a driver airbag.

In recent weeks, Maruti also updated the Ciaz diesel, with the old ubiquitous Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel making way for the brand’s own in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel unit.
