The Bioflex version costs Rs 86,000 more than the standard ZXi+ MT variant. While Maruti has yet to reveal the fuel-efficiency details for the Wagon R Bioflex, in our recent E20 vs E85 fuel mileage test with the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, we found that E85 fuel had 24.40 percent lower fuel efficiency than E20 fuel. A similar drop in efficiency is likely for the Wagon R, even though it is an entirely different vehicle category. Moreover, E85 fuel is only 19.58 percent cheaper than E20.
For now, Maruti is offering the Bioflex version only for the commercial sector. Compared to the commercially available Wagon R Tour H3, priced from Rs 4.99 lakh (for petrol MT) to Rs 5.89 lakh (for CNG MT), the Bioflex is Rs 1.35 lakh to Rs 2.25 lakh costlier. However, the Bioflex has a 1.2-litre engine while the Wagon R Tour H3 comes with a smaller 69hp 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Flex-fuel Maruti Wagon R engine specifications
Offered with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated K12N engine
Powering the Maruti Wagon R Bioflex is a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated K12N engine, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. To accommodate higher ethanol levels, the carmaker has made several changes, including upgraded fuel injectors and fuel pumps, new fuel lines, a recalibrated ECU and an ethanol sensor. These make the engine compatible with fuel containing up to 85 percent ethanol (E85).
While Maruti is yet to reveal the detailed technical specifications, for context, the standard Wagon R ZXi+, producing 91hp and 114Nm, has a claimed mileage figure of 23.56kpl with the 5-speed MT and 24.43kpl with the 5-speed AMT.
Maruti Wagon R flex fuel design differences
Gets some version-specific decals and a dedicated badge
There are no major differences in the exterior and interior design of the Wagon R Bioflex compared to the standard version. The only visible changes on the outside include ‘Flex Fuel’ decals on the profile and a ‘Bioflex’ badge on the tailgate. The interior, however, is the same, with a black-and-beige dual-tone cabin theme and fabric seat upholstery, as well as a 3-spoke steering wheel with media control buttons.
Maruti has revealed that the Bioflex version is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 6 airbags and electronic stability control (ESP). However, since it is based on the top-spec ZXi+ trim, it is expected to offer a manual AC with rear vents, a manually adjustable inside rearview mirror (IRVM), 4 speakers, front fog lamps and rear parking sensors.
Prices are ex-showroom, India.
