The new-gen ES is the first all-electric model from Lexus in India.

Lexus has launched the new ES in India in its all-electric guise at Rs 89.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making this the brand’s first EV for India. Apart from the all-electric 500e, the ES will also be available in a petrol-hybrid guise (350h) as before, although prices for that will be announced later in the year.  Built on the TNGA-K platform shared with the Toyota Camry, the eight generation of this Lexus sedan introduces an all-new design inside and out, more equipment and, of course, all-new powertrain option with the EV.

  1. New ES comes in two variants: 350h and 500e
  2. All-electric variant gets a 74.68kWh battery with 580km claimed range
  3. 350h petrol-hybrid prices to be announced later

For reference, the outgoing Lexus ES in its petrol-hybrid avatar was priced between Rs 62.65 lakh and Rs 68.23 lakh (ex-showroom).

New Lexus ES powertrain specifications

The biggest update with the new ES is on the powertrain front with the introduction of the new 500e variant. It uses a 74.68kWh battery that powers two electric motors (one on each axle), effectively giving it all-wheel drive. The front electric motor produces 227hp and 267Nm, while the rear electric motor produces 120hp and 170Nm. Total system output is rated at 343hp and 438Nm, and Lexus claims a 0-100kph sprint time of a rather brisk 5.5 seconds.

Lexus is claiming a range of 580km on a single charge, and is offering it with an 11kW AC home charger. The company also claims, using a fast 150kW DC fast charger, the battery can be topped up from 10-80 percent in 28 minutes. Lexus is offering an 8-year/200,000 km warranty on both vehicle and battery.

Meanwhile, the 350h variant, set to arrive later, will use a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol-hybrid engine mated to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (e-CVT). The naturally aspirated petrol mill develops 178hp and 221Nm of torque, while the electric motor energised by an updated battery pack can generate 120hp and 202Nm in isolation. The combined system output of the new Lexus ES comes up to 247hp.

New Lexus ES exterior

The eight-gen model is larger than the previous one

The exterior of the 2026 Lexus ES is based on the so-called ‘Provocative Simplicity’ design philosophy, previewed on the LF-ZC concept. This lends the new ES a bold look, combining a cliff-face nose with a coupe-like roofline and angular creases built into the bodywork. The front fascia gets a sealed-off look (no signature Spindle Grille here) and features the ‘twin L-signature’ lamps that are part of the car’s daytime running lights (DRLs).

The front end also features blacked-out vertical elements at the edges of the bumper, which is where the LED headlights are located. The side façade is characterised by a rising belt line and a rather striking Z-shaped trim element that runs across the doors. The ES rides of 21-inch aero optimised wheels with 235/45 section tyres.

The rear of the 2026 Lexus ES also features the distinctive ‘twin L-signature’ lamps at the edges of the bumper, along with a connected LED light bar with ‘Lexus’ lettering in the centre. The fastback-like sloping roof also gives it a sporty touch.

2026 Lexus ES interior

There is an effort to amalgamate technology, quality materials and space

The interior of the new ES showcases what Lexus calls a “Clean Tech x Elegance” design concept, which aims to visually enhance cabin space. Some of the means of achieving this includes lowering the window sills, reducing the thickness of the seats and various trim pieces, and integrating a large panoramic glass roof – all of which Lexus has done with the new ES.

Overall, the dashboard design is clean and minimalistic with a large floating 14-inch touchscreen taking the centre stage, although there are very few physical controls/switches. However, on just the panel below the touchscreen and on the steering wheel, you do get proximity-sensing controls that illuminate upon detecting one’s hand. Furthermore, surfaces such as the speaker grilles and the 3D-printed door pads now LED illumination for a more contemporary look and feel. It also gets a 13.3-inch LCD instrument cluster that’s housed within a hooded binnacle.

Lexus claims that it has revised the thickness and quantity of NVH-damping materials for better cabin comfort, whilst the steering wheel now spells out ‘Lexus’ instead of the brand logo. As for interior finishes, the ES can be had with either white or tan upholstery. Lexus also claims it has made several enhancements to improve overall comfort and refinement.

2026 Lexus ES features

The equipment list of the new-gen ES is quite comprehensive

As mentioned, the ES gets a 12-3inch digital instrument cluster integrated into the carved-out portion behind the steering wheel, and a 14-inch central infotainment screen. Adding to this is a Mark Levinson premium audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and two wireless phone charging. Some of the other features of the 2026 Lexus ES include powered front seats with heating and ventilation, 3-zone climate control, a head-up display, a digital IRVM, multi-colour ambient lighting, rear window sunshades and a power-operated bootlid.

Covering the safety side of things are active nannies including radar-guided cruise control, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive high-beam assist and driver drowsiness monitor. The new Lexus ES also comes with 10 airbags, surround-view cameras, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, hill-hold assist, electronic stability control and all-round parking sensors.

Traditionally, the Lexus ES is a rival to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6, but it holds the distinction of being the only all-electric midsize luxury sedan in the company of its combustion-powered German rivals.
