Land Rover has launched the second-generation Range Rover Evoque in India, with prices starting at Rs 54.94 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India) for the petrol and diesel models. The smallest Range Rover comes in two variants – S and R-Dynamic SE – and two engine options.

Considering the previous-gen Evoque was on sale for Rs 52.06-61.94 lakh for the petrol versions and Rs 52.06-62.96 lakh for the diesel models, the entry-level model's price has increased by about Rs 2.9 lakh. The new range-topping variant - the Evoque R-Dynamic SE that is priced at Rs 59.85 lakh (for the petrol and diesel models), costs about Rs 3 lakh less than the previously available top-spec HSE Dynamic variant.

While deliveries for the diesel models will begin immediately, deliveries for petrol models will begin later.

The new Range Rover Evoque comes with JLR’s Ingenium line of BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engines. The diesel is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel unit (D180) that’s good for 180hp and 430Nm of torque, while the petrol (P250) is a 249hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Power is channeled to all-four wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The new-gen Evoque is based on a new platform that’s been built with electrification in mind.

Even in entry-level form, the Evoque is fairly well-kitted. Automatic LED headlights with DRLs, heated wing mirrors, a powered tail-gate, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloys, two-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, leather seats and steering, 40:20:40 split/folding rear seats, 10-way power adjustable front seats, cruise control and Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 all-wheel drive system are standard. Infotainment duties are taken care of by a 10-inch touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, navigation, JLR’s Connect Pro in-car connectivity suite and a standard speaker system.

The Evoque R-Dynamic SE adds features like a dynamic turn indicators, a 380W Meridian sound system, a digital instrument cluster, 14-way power adjustable front seats with memory function and keyless entry, along with a number of exterior and interior trim and embellishments.

Safety kit such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts at the rear, a pedestrian airbag, emergency brake assist, hill ascent and descent assist, stability control, traction control, a rear camera with front and rear sensors and lane keep assist as standard across the range.

Land Rover has reworked the styling, taking inspiration from the larger Velar. The updated front end features a new headlight design, updated grille and a new front bumper. On the side, the Evoque maintains its overall silhouette but now gets Velar-like pop-out door handles. At the back, the Evoque gets a new bumper and new tail-lights that mimic the Velar’s.

As for its rivals, the new Evoque will compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 in the market. In our review, the Evoque wowed us with its stylish design and luxurious cabin.
