Yamaha FZ-S Fi Ver 4.0 DLX Expert Review
7.0
The Yamaha FZ-S FI V4 DLX has a larger-looking design, with panels that make the bike appear bigger than it actually is. The LED headlight is more powerful and works well, although it is not the prettiest. There is a fair amount of unpainted black plastic, while fit and finish is acceptable in most areas. However, the test bike had a couple of panel gaps and some corrosion on the engine after 3,000km.
8.0
The FZ-S V4 has relaxed ergonomics, with an almost upright riding position and a gentle bend in the knees. The seat is spacious and comfortable, with enough room for a pillion as well. However, the firm seat may not suit riders who prefer softer padding. The bike's roomy nature makes it comfortable for taller riders while remaining unintimidating for shorter ones.
8.0
The 149cc engine produces 12.4hp and 13.3Nm. Performance is not the FZ-S V4's strong point, with 0-60kph taking 5.4 seconds and 0-100kph taking 19.47 seconds in Autocar India's tests. The indicated top speed is around 110kph.
However, the engine is tractable and works well for everyday riding. It can run at low speeds in higher gears and pulls without protest when the throttle is opened. Fuel efficiency is a major strength, with the bike returning 48.7kpl overall in testing.
7.0
The FZ-S V4 is a neutral handler and weighs 136kg. Its stiff rear suspension is a weakness, as it transmits small road imperfections to the rider. A softer setup would improve the experience, especially considering the bike's focus on daily use.
7.0
The bike gets an LCD instrument cluster with Y-Connect smartphone connectivity and switchable traction control. However, the review points out that it does not get rear ABS or a gear position indicator. The absence of a hinged fuel-filler cap is also noted.
7.0
FZ-S V4 DLX is positioned at the expensive end of the segment. Its performance is limited compared with similarly priced rivals. The standard FZ-S range starts lower and offers a similar motorcycle without some of the DLX's features. Overall, the FZ-S V4 is a practical commuter with good space, adequate performance and excellent fuel efficiency.
