I am planning to buy a new 160cc bike. My options are the Apache RTR 160 4V TFT, Pulsar N160, and Xtreme 160 4V. Most of my riding will be in the city at speeds of 60-70 kmph, with occasional long rides. My priorities are mileage, looks, low maintenance, good customer service, resale value, fewer complaints, comfort, performance, and easy availability of spare parts. Please suggest one good option.

All three options you have shortlisted are great in their own ways, and we'd advise you to choose between the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and the Apache RTR 160 4V TFT from our previous experience with them. If you are taller than 5'9, then the TVS bike will feel a little cramped, so we'd recommend the Bajaj if you're above that threshold.

You should also take a look at the Honda Unicorn / SP160 as these bikes also meet your requirements, although they will have slightly lower performance compared to the aforementioned TVS and Bajaj bikes.

Take a test ride of all the bikes you're considering before you go ahead with your purchase.

I am a regular Autocar follower and need your guidance in choosing my next motorcycle. The bike will be used mainly for city commuting, though not in heavy bumper to bumper traffic. I have previously owned an Activa and a Honda Unicorn. I am 36 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and occasionally ride with a pillion and my children. I am not very focused on looks or features and am primarily looking for a comfortable, reliable motorcycle for long term ownership. Budget is not a constraint.

If you are open to the idea of a larger, premium machine, then bikes like the TVS Ronin, Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and Honda CB350 will be the options we recommend. If you want to instead go for a commuter bike, there are loads of great options in the 160cc space, such as the Honda Unicorn / SP160, Bajaj Pulsar N160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Suzuki Gixxer.

Take a test ride of all the bikes you shortlist with a pillion to see what suits you best.

I have an L5 disc issue, I am 5 ft tall and 95 kg, and I want to buy a geared bike for city and occasional highway use under 350 cc with a budget below ₹3 lakh on road in Karnataka; can you suggest suitable options?

Considering your height and your back issue, you will require something with good suspension, a low seat and a comfortable seating posture. Very few bikes amalgamate all three, so we have chosen to prioritize suspension over an ultra-low seat. Over time, you can work around that issue and even get comfortable with it.

Some options in the 150-160cc space to look at are the Honda Unicorn / SP160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar N160. All have seat heights under 800mm and have compliant suspension setups.

If you want a larger machine under the 350cc bracket, then you can consider the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 as well as the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. The latter has a lower seat, but its feet-forward seating position won't be very comfortable over bad roads. The Hunter has supple suspension, and while it has a taller seat, its neutral seating position will be better over bumps.

We would strongly recommend taking a test ride of whatever you decide to go with to make sure you're comfortable with the bike.

I’m an amateur rider and haven’t ridden bikes much. I learned on a Honda Shine and have done some basic local rides. I’m planning to buy a bike, but I'm confused between models with strong road presence like Royal Enfield or Honda CB/Highness series, and those under 200cc that offer better mileage and are more suitable for city rides. My daily use would be around 50 km within the city. Please suggest a suitable option.

If you’re not entirely confident about your riding skills, we wouldn’t recommend heavier bikes like the Royal Enfield 350s or the Honda CB350 models, as they can be difficult to handle for a newcomer.

A good beginner-friendly option would be something in the 150/160cc sporty commuter space, such as the Bajaj Pulsar N160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Honda Unicorn/SP160, or Yamaha FZ models.

These bikes are relatively light, have at least single-channel ABS (some offer dual-channel), and should provide a good safety net while allowing you some leeway to grow into them.
