Honda Rebel 500

Honda Rebel 500 Launch Date
November 2026
₹4.75 - ₹4.97 Lakh
Expected on road price, Mumbai
Mumbai

The Honda Rebel 500 is expected to return to India as a 500cc bobber-style cruiser, with a relaxed cruiser riding position. It is likely to retain the 471cc parallel-twin engine, which produces 46hp and 43.3Nm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. The bike is expected to feature a 690mm seat height, 175 mm circular headlight, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, two-piece seat and short exhaust, along with a circular TFT instrument cluster unlike the LCD unit offered on international models. It will also feature a dual-channel ABS. Rebel 500 will be available with Honda’s E-Clutch system that allows riders to shift gears without using the clutch lever while still retaining manual clutch operation.

The biggest change for the India-spec model is expected to be its manufacturing process. Unlike the earlier Rebel 500, which was imported as a CBU, the new model is expected to be locally manufactured in India, with around 50 percent of its components likely to be sourced locally while the engine will initially continue to be imported. This increased localisation should help Honda position the Rebel 500 at a more competitive price than the previous version, although the final price is yet to be announced.

Honda Rebel 500 FAQs

The earlier Rebel 500 was sold in India as a CBU at Rs 5.12 lakh, but Honda has mentioned that 50% parts for the Rebel 500 will be sourced locally, with the engine being imported. This can lead to more competitive pricing.

As of now there is no information on the starting date for official booking of Honda Rebel 500.

Go for the Rebel E-Clutch variant if you are going to ride mostly in stop-and-go traffic or if you're a newer rider as it will cause less clutch fatigue, no stalling and gives the same feel once you're moving. Choose Standard manual if you're experienced, want the lightest option, and want to keep full-control over the bike.

Kawasaki Eliminator 500 and RE Shotgun 650 will rival Honda Rebel 500 as they are very closely matched in their engine architecture.

Honda NX500 is the better for highway riding as it has an upright, touring-friendly riding position compared to Rebel's low and relaxed bobber stance. NX500 can carry 6.3 litres more fuel compared to Rebel 5000 which makes NX500 more suitable for longer range between stops. The road-biased 19/17-inch wheels of NX500 are for better high-speed stability. The Rebel 500 is more suitable for a laid-back cruiser experience.

I am a new rider and am planning to buy the new Honda Rebel with the e-Clutch as my first bike. Should I go for the Rebel 300 or wait for the Rebel 500 which is expected to launch next February? I do not want a heavy bike like my brother's Super Meteor 650. I just want something cool and fun to ride. Also, will I be comfortable on a Rebel as I am 6 feet tall?

If this is to be your very first motorcycle, it makes more sense to go for the smaller Honda Rebel 300 over the bigger 500, although the 500 can also work as your first bike if you plan to keep it for many years but the learning curve will be quite steep in the initial days of your motorcycling journey. Both the Rebel models are much lighter than the comparable Royal Enfield bike so weight really isn't the issue. Coming to whether you will fit on the Rebel, we can't yet comment on that as we haven't been able to spend some quality seat time on either of them. We suggest you wait until both are available in a showroom near you and take a test ride before you make a decision.
