Ducati Diavel

Ducati Diavel V4 introduced an aluminium monocoque frame while retaining its familiar design in place of the earlier steel trellis unit. Despite its larger 20-litre fuel tank, the motorcycle is 13kg lighter than before. Details like the multi-LED tail lamp and quad exhaust tips stand out. However, the finish of some plastic panels and sharp edges could have felt more premium as expected for a motorcycle at this price.

The Diavel V4 offers a more comfortable riding position than its predecessor. The handlebar is positioned closer to the rider, reducing the forward stretch while maintaining the familiar riding stance. The fully adjustable Marzocchi/Sachs suspension provides better bump absorption than before, making the motorcycle more comfortable on rough roads. Overall comfort has improved, making the Diavel better suited for touring. Ground clearance remains limited, particularly around the low-mounted oil cooler.

The lower weight and revised chassis make the Diavel V4 easier to ride and more agile than before. Although the wide 240-section rear tyre still requires effort during direction changes, the motorcycle remains stable and capable on flowing roads. The revised suspension offers a better balance between comfort and handling, while Brembo Stylema brakes provide strong stopping performance.

Diavel V4 features cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, cruise control, a decently sized 5-inch TFT display and a bi-directional quickshifter that reduces rider effort by eliminating need to use clutch for most gear changes.

The Diavel V4's 60,000km valve clearance service interval helps reduce a major maintenance expense. With improvements to comfort, handling and everyday usability, the Diavel V4 is a more complete motorcycle while retaining the character that defines the Diavel.

The Diavel V4 has 1,158cc V4 engine that performs better on the recommended 95-octane fuel than on regular petrol. It produces 168hp and 126Nm. Even after replacing L-twin engine, it retains familiar Ducati character at low speeds while delivering smoother performance above 3,000rpm. It has a new cylinder deactivation system that reduces engine heat during idle and light engine loads, improving comfort in traffic. Low-speed fueling may feel dull in Urban and Wet modes. There is a slight surge when all four cylinders become active again in slow-moving traffic.
