Aprilia Tuono 457 expert review
We like
Engine is punchy and also very refined
Handles almost as well as the RS
All-day comfortable, tech-laden
We don't like
Quickshifter, adjustable levers, sintered brake pads should be standard
8.0
The Aprilia Tuono 457 gets a different look compared to the RS 457, with the fairing, clip-ons and tri-lamp headlight replaced by a smaller LED headlight and a handlebar setup. The headlight design may not look as attractive as the RS initially, but it grows on you over time. Aprilia has also slightly reprofiled the fuel tank to suit the taller handlebar and improve lock-to-lock clearance.
The Tuono shares its chassis with the RS 457 and even weighs the same 175kg despite having less bodywork. Aprilia says the smaller headlight and handlebar setup balance out the weight difference. The motorcycle also gets rubber-mounted footpegs, which help improve comfort on the road.
8.0
The Tuono 457 is far more comfortable than the RS on regular roads. The upright riding position with only a slight lean towards the handlebar makes bad roads easier to deal with, even though the suspension setup remains stiff like the RS.
The bike combines sporty performance with all-day comfort very well. It feels relaxed enough for commuting and touring, while still remaining engaging to ride. Windblast becomes noticeable at around 140kph, but cruising at 120kph feels comfortable.
9.0
The parallel-twin engine remains one of the highlights of the Tuono 457. It feels punchy, flexible and very refined, with strong low and mid-range performance. Aprilia has shortened the final drive gearing with a larger rear sprocket, making the bike feel even better in everyday riding conditions.
The engine is extremely tractable and can pull away from a standstill in second gear without protest. Even 45kph in sixth gear feels smooth and free from knocking. At the same time, the Tuono remains exciting and playful, with enough performance to lift the front wheel under hard acceleration.
9.0
Despite the more comfortable ergonomics, the Tuono has retained the RS 457’s sharp and composed handling. It feels eager while cornering and remains stable and confidence inspiring on twisty roads.
The upright position actually improves road usability without taking away from the sporty character. Whether it is city riding, highway touring or attacking corners, the Tuono handles everything with ease while keeping the rider comfortable and engaged.
7.0
The Tuono 457 shares its feature-rich dashboard with the RS 457 and gets plenty of tech. However, some important equipment is missing as standard. Adjustable levers, sintered brake pads and the optional quickshifter are not included, which feels disappointing at this price point. The quickshifter alone costs around Rs 20,050 extra.
9.0
Priced at Rs 3.97 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tuono 457 costs Rs 25,000 less than the RS 457 while still delivering a highly capable and well-rounded riding experience. It combines strong performance, excellent handling, everyday comfort and useful technology into one package.
While a few missing features could have been standard, these are relatively minor issues in an otherwise impressive motorcycle. For riders looking for a fast, sporty and reasonably comfortable machine, the Tuono 457 makes a very strong case for itself.

•3wI am looking for a bike with a parallel twin engine, and my budget is around ₹4.5 lakh. After researching, I found that two bikes with parallel twin engines have caught my attention. One is the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, and the other is the Yamaha R3. Which bike should I buy?

Autocar India
Sadly, the Yamaha R3 has been discontinued in India and the company hasn't confirmed if or when the updated model will be coming to our shores. Therefore, the Royal Enfield 650s are your best bet if you want a twin-cylinder experience. Specifically, the Interceptor is a tried and tested product which should be characterful and reasonably comfortable for road usage. Bear in mind that the Interceptor is a heavy bike with its wide engine splaying the Rider's feet out, so if you're on the shorter side of the spectrum, you might struggle to flat foot it. You could also look at the Aprilia Tuono 457 if you want something sporty but still usable on the road. Aprilia's 457cc engine hasn't had the best reputation for reliability though and we'd recommend you tread lightly and make no modifications inside the warranty period on this bike. A test ride will help you figure out which bike is for you.

•9wI want to buy a bike with more than 46 bhp, and my budget is between ₹5-6 lakh. Could you please suggest some suitable options?

Autocar India
To get a motorcycle making more than 46hp within your budget, you can consider any of the Royal Enfield 650cc models, as well as the Aprilia RS and Tuono 457 models. Royal Enfield's 650s aren't sporty machines and are also considerably heavy, with some of them weighing 240kg or more. The Aprilia 457 models are properly thrilling and entertaining machines to ride, but have been plagued by some troubling engine reliability issues. It would be advisable to speak to some RS and Tuono 457 owners to see what their experience has been before pulling the trigger on either of the two. Lastly, the Kawasaki Ninja 500 is another option that fits the bill, and truthfully, it is a great bike to ride, but its steep pricing is a tough pill to swallow.Do your research, take multiple test rides and speak to people who own these bikes before you make your choice.
