Aprilia SR 175 expert review

Peppy performance, strong brakes
Surefooted handling
Striking looks, new features
We don't like
Missing basic features
Practicality, space for tall riders
8.0
The Aprilia SR 175 retains the sharp and sporty design of the SR 160, and even after nearly a decade, it still stands out on the road. The new white/red and purple/red colour schemes inspired by the RS 457 add freshness to the scooter’s appearance.
The biggest update is the new 5-inch TFT display borrowed from the RS 457. It supports turn-by-turn navigation, call and message alerts, and music controls through Aprilia’s smartphone app. The display is bright, easy to use and offers both Digital and Analogic display modes. However, practicality-focused features such as an external fuel filler, front storage cubby and start-stop system are missing. Underseat storage also remains quite limited.
6.0
The SR 175 continues to feel sporty, but it is now slightly more comfortable than before. The suspension setup is firm but not harsh, and it handled rough city roads reasonably well during testing.
The riding position can feel slightly cramped for taller riders, especially around the floorboard area. The sloping seat also forces riders to adjust their seating position frequently and does not feel especially spacious or well padded.
8.0
The new 174.7cc engine produces 12.9hp and 14.14Nm, offering noticeably stronger performance than the SR 160. Acceleration feels eager and smooth, making the scooter fun in city traffic as well as at higher speeds.
Power delivery remains predictable with a strong pull up to around 90kph. The engine feels slightly gruff at lower speeds, with some juddering below 20kph, but overall refinement is acceptable once the scooter gets moving.
Fuel efficiency is also impressive for a sporty scooter. The SR 175 returned 35.2kpl in the city and 41.7kpl on the highway.
7.0
Handling has always been one of the SR range’s strongest areas, and the SR 175 continues that tradition. The 14-inch wheels and chunky tyres provide excellent confidence while cornering and keep the scooter stable even over rough roads.
Braking performance is strong as well. The front brake offers progressive bite and good stopping power, while single-channel ABS works effectively, although it can intervene slightly early during hard braking.
7.0
The SR 175 now gets a TFT display with smartphone connectivity, navigation and media controls. It also comes with single-channel ABS as standard.
However, some basic convenience features remain missing, and the underseat storage space is still limited.
7.0
Starting at Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Aprilia SR 175 offers sporty performance, confident handling and striking looks at a competitive price. While practicality and comfort are not its strongest points, it feels more rounded than earlier SR models without losing its fun character.

•34wI’m 5'4" tall and an extremely skinny person. I want to replace my 2015 Honda Dio with something more powerful and fun to ride. My daily office commute is around 20 km, with occasional short weekend rides. I really like the Ather 450 series, but it’s a bit of a stretch for me due to the battery warranty and Pro Pack cost. I also liked the new Ntorq 150. Is it worth spending extra for the Ather in my case? Should I consider any other scooters?

Autocar India
Considering that you come from a Honda Dio and are looking at sporty scooter options, we'll recommend only those that fit within this box. The Ather 450X is a superb offering, even all these years later, and if you do want an Ather 450 but can't quite digest the 450X's high price, it's worth taking a look at the Ather 450S because it packs in very similar performance, features, and range at a significantly lower price. That's about the only sporty electric scooter we would recommend currently. In the petrol scooter space, the TVS Ntorq 150 is a great option that is also well-priced. Another option you could also consider is the Aprilia SR 175, which is a more focused sporty scooter but is less practical and also has a rather limited dealer reach, so do bear that in mind.
