The Triumph Rocket 3 GT has been launched at Rs 18.4 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price point, the Rocket 3 GT costs Rs 40,000 more than the Rocket 3 R that was launched late last year.

  • Rocket 3 GT has more relaxed ergonomics
  • Gets additional equipment like a fly-screen and backrest
  • 2,500cc engine makes 167hp and 221Nm of torque

How is the Rocket 3 GT different from the Rocket 3 R?

Design and ergonomics

The GT, as the name suggests, is the cruiser version of the Rocket 3, while the R is the street-oriented roadster. The latter has a sportier riding position and a flat, single-piece handlebar. The Rocket 3 GT has a slightly relaxed riding position, with forward-set foot pegs, a slightly pulled-back handlebar and a lower seat height, at 750mm (compared to 773mm on the R).

In addition, the GT gets a fly-screen, heated grips and a height-adjustable backrest for the pillion. The alloy wheel design is the same on both models, but for the chrome accents seen on the GT’s wheels. While the Rocket 3 R weighs 291kg, the Rocket 3 GT tips the scales at 294kg.

Engine and chassis

Powering the Rocket 3 GT is the same 2,500cc, three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine from the R that produces 167hp at 6,000rpm and a massive 221Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Like the R, the GT also uses an all-aluminium frame, with the engine acting as a stressed member. Suspension duties are taken care of by 47mm, compression and rebound adjustable, Showa USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear with a Showa piggyback reservoir and remote adjuster.

Braking, meanwhile, is handled by twin 320mm discs at the front with Brembo Stylema four-piston monobloc calipers and a 300mm disc at the rear with Brembo M4.32, four-piston calipers.

The Rocket 3 GT is available in Silver Ice/Storm Grey or Phantom Black colour options.
