KTM 160 Duke confirmed ahead of launch

KTM had earlier released a teaser showing the silhouette of its upcoming model, and has now confirmed that it will indeed be the KTM 160, which will serve as the entry point into the brand’s lineup.

  1. KTM 160 Duke confirmed for launch; will replace the earlier 125 Duke
  2. Powered by 200 Duke-derived engine, expected to produce 19-20hp
  3. Launch likely before festive season

KTM 160 Duke to be based on 200 Duke

The 160 Duke will likely feature the same chassis and underpinnings.

Earlier this year, amid reports of KTM discontinuing its 125 Duke and RC 125, we exclusively reported that the company is working on a higher-displacement 160cc model to serve as the new entry point, replacing the 125s that have been struggling with low sales.

Last week, KTM released the first teaser of what appeared to be the 160 Duke, featuring a repurposed engine from the 200 Duke and a silhouette reminiscent of that bike—hinting that it could be based on the same platform.

Now, through a social media teaser, KTM has confirmed that it will indeed be the 160 Duke, with the name spelled out in the image alongside the bike’s reflection in a puddle. There’s still no word on the RC 160.

The KTM 160 Duke will feature a new engine derived from the 200 Duke’s motor, with an expected output of 19-20hp. This marks a significant step up from the previous 125cc KTM unit’s 14.5hp, giving it an edge over Yamaha’s 155cc model (18.4hp) while still staying below the 200cc KTM’s 25hp.

The launch of the new KTM 160 models is expected to take place just before the festive season kicks off.
