Kawasaki Ninja 400, price, top speed, discontinued.

Kawasaki has pulled the plug on the Ninja 400, a few months after it launched the Ninja 500.

  1. Ninja 500 is priced the same as 400 in India
  2. Pricing was exorbitant as it was a CBU
  3. Went off sale in 2020 due to BS6 norms, returned in 2022

Kawasaki Ninja 400 replaced by Ninja 500 in India

The Kawasaki Ninja 400 was launched in India back in 2018 at a lofty Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India) price tag. It was an all-new model that shared very little with the localised Ninja 300 that still soldiers on to this day despite being discontinued internationally for many years. The Ninja 400 went off sale for nearly two years when the BS6 emissions norms kicked in back in 2020 and returned in 2022.

In our review of the Ninja 400, which you can read here, we were impressed with the motorcycle and had very little to complain about, except its unreasonable price tag.

Kawasaki Ninja 400 video review

The new Ninja 500 is based quite heavily on the Ninja 400 and uses a stroked-out version of the 399cc mill. At Rs 5.24 lakh, the Ninja 500 is priced exactly the same as the 400. In fact, the Ninja 400 was offered with a significant discount in the months leading up to its discontinuation to help clear old inventory and make way for the Ninja 500.
