After weeks of teasing its arrival, BSA has launched the Scrambler 650 in India. First introduced globally last year, the Scrambler 650 is based on the Gold Star 650 platform but features several ergonomic and hardware changes to better suit its scrambler intent.

  1. Powered by the same 652cc single-cylinder engine as the Gold Star 650
  2. Gets 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels

BSA Scrambler 650 price and details

The Scrambler 650 makes 45hp and 55Nm

The BSA Scrambler 650 is powered by the same 652cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine as the Gold Star 650. This unit produces 45hp at 6,500rpm and 55Nm at 4,000rpm and comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

While the engine remains unchanged, the Scrambler 650 gets several design updates, including a high-mounted front fender, fork gaiters, side panels with ‘65’ graphics and a revised tail-light. It also features an LED headlight with an optional grille and a round LCD instrument cluster.

The most significant mechanical change is the switch to a 19-inch front wheel (up from 18 inches on the Gold Star), while the rear remains a 17-incher. The wheels are shod with CEAT Crossrad tyres, unlike the UK-spec model that uses Pirelli rubber. Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork with 138mm of travel up front and twin shock absorbers at the rear offering 127mm of travel.

The Scrambler 650 has a seat height of 820mm, ground clearance of 187mm, and a dry weight of 208kg. At its introductory price of Rs 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Scrambler 650 undercuts its closest rival, the Royal Enfield Bear 650, by a substantial Rs 50,000.

Good move; it cuts dependence on crude oil imports
I support it as it’s a greener solution than pure petrol
I’ll accept it only if it’s cheaper than E20 petrol
I am concerned about damage to my vehicle
Not good; fuel efficiency will drop even further
