Ducati has issued a recall for the new Multistrada V4 in the North American market, due to an issue with valve guides of the new V4 Granturismo engine.

  • Faulty engine valve guides could lead to power loss
  • 60 units affected in North America
  • Ducati to install brand new engines in the affected Multistrada V4s

What is the issue with the new V4 engine?

Ducati says they've found quality related issues with the valve guides which may lead to excessive wear and cause the engine to lose power and ultimately fail at the head. One of Ducati's two parts suppliers is said to have produced the faulty valve guides.

It is pertinent to note that this is the first time that Ducati has ditched its traditional Desmodromic valve system for this new valve spring return system, which meant the intervals between the valve clearance checks went up from every 30,000km to 60,000km.

The huge service interval might come as a relief to many because people have always been concerned about big service bills.

How many Multistrada V4s have been affected and what is the solution?

The issue with the valve guides has plagued 60 motorcycles that have been sold in the North American market. Ducati will contact the owners of these motorcycles and replace the V4 engine with a new unit. The company has also asked Ducati dealers to halt sales of the Multistrada V4 that have the faulty valve guides.

To reiterate, the new Multistrada features Ducati's V4 Granturismo engine that makes 170 hp at 10,500rpm and maximum torque of 125Nm at 8,750rpm. To know more about the Ducati Multistrada V4, click here.
