The MY27 carries over the full package of last year’s bike, with power coming from a 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin producing 67hp at 8,500rpm and 61Nm at 7,000rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and an assist-and-slipper clutch.

The chassis uses a tubular diamond frame with a 41mm telescopic front fork offering 150mm of travel and a rear monoshock with remote preload adjustability and 145mm of travel. Features include an adjustable windscreen, 4.3-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, traction control and full LED lighting.

With its big 21-litre fuel tank brimmed, the bike weighs 220kg. The seat height is set at a fairly tall 845mm, and the Versys 650 has a healthy 170mm of ground clearance, which should help it tackle most Indian road surfaces. Priced at Rs 8.63 lakh, the Kawasaki Versys 650 sits in a niche of its own in the Indian market, with its closest competition being the Honda NX500 (Rs 7.44 lakh).
