Yamaha R15 variant breakdown
S
While there are a great many differences between the three variants of the popular R15, some similarities are also present. The beloved 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine making 18.4hp and 14.2 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox is present across all. The main frame, wheels and brakes are also common to the three R15 variants.
What is the biggest difference between the base S variant and the other two is the styling and equipment levels on offer. The S is essentially the last-gen V3 version of the R15 and has different styling to the V4. It uses a right-way up telescopic fork, different headlights and bodywork and a stepped single-piece seat. At 142kg, it is also 1 kilo heavier than the other variants of the R15. With a price tag of Rs 1.51 lakh, the R15S is the most affordable to buy a fully-faired Yamaha motorcycle today.
V4
The V4 forms the base for the current-gen R15 and it brings in a USD fork, different styling reminiscent of larger Yamaha machines and features such as an up-only quickshifter. The quickshifter is only available on certain colour options and isn’t standard across all. Available in six colours, the R15 V4 costs between Rs 1.66 lakh - Rs 1.71 lakh.
M
The M is the range-topping R15 variant and while it is mechanically identical to the V4, it brings in some extra features like the quickshifter and a colour TFT display. It also comes in some special paint options like the livery of the Yamaha MotoGP racebike as well as that of the R1M superbike. Priced between Rs 1.81 lakh - Rs 1.91 lakh, the R15M is the most expensive variant in the lineup and one of the most expensive 150cc two-wheelers in India.
