The new Renault Duster is currently on offer with two turbo-petrol engine options. The 1-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol motor makes 100hp and 160Nm and comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox only. Its larger 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine produces 163hp and 280Nm, and can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. A diesel option, however, is not on offer.

Renault will also introduce a 1.8-litre strong-hybrid powertrain by Diwali 2026. The Duster hybrid combines a naturally aspirated 1.8 litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors: a 20hp unit acting as a starter generator and a 49hp motor powering the front wheels. Combined, this system produces 160hp and 172Nm, and it's supported by a 1.4kWh battery pack.

Which 2026 Renault Duster variant should you buy?

Given Renault's aggressive pricing for the new Duster, the fully loaded Iconic variant – priced between Rs 16.99 lakh and Rs 18.49 lakh – is our pick. It’s one of the few midsize SUVs that offers a manual gearbox with a turbo-petrol engine in the top spec, which will appeal to enthusiasts. Compared to chief rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Tata Sierra, which offer a turbo-petrol engine paired to an automatic gearbox in their respective top trims, the Duster automatic undercuts them by up to Rs 2.5 lakh (that's before accounting for R Pass prices). Additionally, its 163hp motor is the most powerful in the segment.

All prices are ex-showroom, India.
