For MY26, both SUVs have been refreshed by their respective brands with new styling elements, additional features, and a new gearbox option. Both SUVs sit on the MQB-A0-IN platform, get the same engines, and are known for their fun-to-drive character. But in top-spec guise, which of the two offers better value? We compare the Kushaq's Prestige trim to the Taigun's GT Plus trim to find out.

Powering the Kushaq and Taigun is a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. The mill develops 150hp and 250Nm of torque, and is mated with a 7-speed DCT gearbox only. Notably, it's the only engine in its class with cylinder deactivation tech, wherein the engine operates only on two out of the four cylinders at low speeds to save on fuel. But the Taigun’s ARAI-claimed figures are minutely higher than the Kushaq’s.

However, only the Taigun offers welcome and goodbye lighting animations, a feature that the Kushaq skips out on. When it comes to colour options, monotone options are standard on both SUVs, but only the Taigun offers a matte finish colour option. Dual-tone colour options on the Kushaq are only available on the Monte Carlo edition, which gets cosmetic upgrades over the Prestige trim.

When it comes to price, the Volkswagen Taigun's top-spec version is Rs 20,000 more expensive than the Kushaq's. When it comes to choosing between the two in general, styling plays a factor here, since looks are subjective, and both SUVs are similar underneath. However, between the two, it's the Skoda we'd pick, since it offers more value. It does everything that the Taigun can, that too, from a slightly more affordable price point. Also, it is the only one here with a rear-seat massager.
