My usage will be around 30 km per day, three days a week, plus a couple of weekend trips. So I don’t want just a typical city car. I’d like something that feels a bit fun to drive as well. Could you suggest some options? I see there are turbo-petrol choices available, but the Honda City’s 1.5 i-VTEC also seems like a strong and powerful naturally aspirated option. One thing I noticed during a test drive, though, was the tyre noise. Even at around 30kph, it felt noticeable and a bit annoying. Is that actually a concern in real-world city or moderate-speed driving, or am I overthinking the NVH levels? Some owners do mention that tyre and road noise in the Honda City can be more noticeable than expected, especially depending on the road surface and tyres.

It feels quick without needing to rev hard, so gaps in traffic and hill climbs are easy. The steering is light in the city, yet the car stays steady on open roads, and the big boot makes weekend runs simple. The manual is also enjoyable to use if you like being involved while driving.

About the Honda City’s tyre noise: it does let in more tyre and road noise than you might expect on rough or concrete roads, but it is rarely a deal-breaker. It also varies a lot with tyre brand and pressure. Switching to a quieter set of tyres later usually helps.

Two trade-offs with the Virtus: the rear seat is not as wide as the Honda City’s, and it won’t be as fuel-efficient. A close alternative with a similar driving feel is the Skoda Slavia. If you love the City’s smooth engine and spacious cabin, then that is still the one to get. Just keep in mind that a facelift is expected soon, so either wait for that or negotiate a good discount on the current stock.

Good evening, Nagendra. The Honda City is a fantastic sedan and one of our default recommendations for buyers looking for a comfortable, reliable and refined family car. However, ground clearance is its only real weakness. The City has a ground clearance of 165mm, which is adequate for most speed breakers, but some of the larger, unscientific speed breakers in Mumbai can be a challenge, especially when the car is fully loaded.If your daily routes include particularly tall speed breakers or poorly designed humps, you will need to be careful with your approach angle and speed. The City can clear most speed breakers if you take them slowly and at an angle, but it is not as forgiving as an SUV or a crossover.If ground clearance is a major concern, you may want to consider the Honda Elevate instead. It offers a similar ownership experience, a higher seating position and significantly better ground clearance, making it much better suited to Mumbai's speed breakers. If you are set on a sedan, the Skoda Slavia and the VW Virtus do offer better ground clearance than the City.

The 1.0 TSI engine is punchy enough for highway driving but not intimidating, and the manual gearbox is light and easy to operate.The main adjustment will be the lower seating position compared to an SUV like the Mahindra KUV100, which can initially make judging the car's extremities a bit trickier, especially in tight parking situations. However, both cars are not excessively large, and with practice, you will quickly get used to their dimensions. Parking sensors and a rear camera, which are available on higher variants, will also help build confidence. If you are genuinely concerned about parking and manoeuvrability, you could consider the Skoda Kylaq or Volkswagen Taigun / Skoda Kushaq 1.0 TSI instead. However, if you spend time practising, the Slavia or Virtus will not be difficult to get used to.

Since you already own a sedan, you could consider replacing it with the updated Skoda Slavia. It gets a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine and now comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It is very good to drive, feels solidly built, and with ample ground clearance, you don't need to worry about unusually tall speedbreakers either. The 2026 version also comes with an updated air-con unit for better cabin cooling.Alternatively, you could look at the Hyundai Verna 1.5 Petrol IVT. It is a smooth, feature-rich sedan, and is backed by Hyundai's widespread support network.Since there are no EV sedans in the market, you will have to opt for a crossover like the Tata Nexon EV, MG Windsor or Kia Syros in that price point. Out of these, the Syros feels the most comfortable and user-friendly, and if you don't mind the way it looks, it is worth a serious consideration. But opt for an EV only if you can arrange for home charging, as relying on public charging can be a bit tricky.
