Team Autocar India, I have recently moved to Goa and am still learning the lay of the land. I am thinking of buying a car and I am a first-time driver as well. I got my license at 18, but I have never owned a car, so I lack driving practice. My budget is within Rs 3 lakh to buy a used car. What should I look out for when buying a pre-owned car, especially given Goa's humid and monsoonal weather? Also, which would be the right choice, a petrol or an electric used car? Which car models would you suggest I consider? Thanks, AL
You should look at the Maruti Suzuki WagonR in the used car market. The WagonR is ideal because its small footprint and narrow width make it manageable around Goa's roads. The elevated seating should also put you at ease because This Maruti Suzuki car gives you a good view of the world around you.
The WagonR is a proven product without any reliability issues to speak of. Even in Goa's hot and humid conditions the WagonR does not give any problems. We'd recommend you search for the WagonR with the larger 1.2-litre petrol engine. While these are rarer, the WagonR 1.2 offers significantly more pep, which will be a boon on the narrow and hilly roads of Goa.
An electric car within your price band would be extremely hard to come by and would be best avoided.
