I am planning to purchase a primarily sub-4 metre automatic SUV for tax-saving purposes under the BH series registration. We are expecting a baby soon, so the car will mainly be used by a family of three, with occasional travel involving four people. I have already test driven the Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Maruti Brezza. While I am not a driving enthusiast by nature, I found the Brezza’s pick-up and acceleration above 70 km/h somewhat underwhelming. I loved almost everything about the Kylaq except for the AC performance, which feels like a major drawback for Indian summers and traffic conditions. As for the XUV 3XO, I have come across mixed reviews regarding high-speed stability and after-sales service, although I personally did not feel any issues during the test drive. My priorities are: Good fuel efficiency Comfortable city usability (monthly running around 600–800 km in Hyderabad) Performance and highway capability for 2-3 long trips annually Strong safety credentials Decent long-term maintenance costs and peace of mind ownership Good warranty and service packages My budget is around ₹14-15 lakh and can be stretched slightly if required. I am also open to considering sedans like the Honda City or slightly larger SUVs like the Honda Elevate if they make more sense overall. Could you please suggest the best option for my requirements?

It is one of the few sub-4-metre SUVs still available with a diesel engine, and the 1.5-litre diesel is a strong, efficient unit that will handle your daily mileage comfortably. The 3XO also offers a spacious cabin, good rear-seat comfort and a strong feature set, making it well-suited to family use. It is also a genuinely enjoyable car to drive, with good performance and a solid, planted feel on the highway.The Tata Nexon diesel is the other option worth considering, but the 3XO has the edge in terms of engine refinement, performance and overall ownership experience. The Nexon diesel is a solid car, but the engine is not as refined as the Mahindra unit, and the 3XO feels like the more complete package.The only caveat with the 3XO is that the boot is one of the smallest in the segment, so if you carry a lot of luggage, that is worth noting.

If your 2014 Elite i20 petrol has only done 55,000km and is mechanically sound, there is no compelling reason to upgrade right now. The i20 is a well-built, reliable car with a proven petrol engine, and at that mileage it still has plenty of life left in it. The only reason to upgrade would be if your needs have changed - for example, if you now need more space, a higher driving position or more safety features. If your usage is still mostly city driving and the car is well-maintained, it makes more financial sense to keep it for a few more years. If you do decide to upgrade, look at the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza or Mahindra XUV 3XO - all offer a higher seating position, better safety and a more modern ownership experience without being a huge jump in size or price. But if the car is running well, there is no need to change it just for the sake of it.
