Being in the Army, I travel quite often. With a budget of Rs 12 lakh, my requirement is a 7-seater SUV. Should I buy the Tata Safari or the Mahindra XUV500, or do you have a better suggestion?

AAA There is not much choice other than the Tata Safari Storme and the Mahindra XUV500, if you are looking for a 7-seater in the Rs 10-12 lakh range. Between the two, the Mahindra XUV500 is far better, as it is much nicer to drive and is more sophisticated than the old-school Safari.
