What is the Red Bull Soapbox Race?

In a typical tongue-in-cheek manner, Red Bull describes its soapbox race as the “pinnacle of non-motor-racing”. These races are held on a variety of city courses across the world, but the basic concept remains the same – local amateur entrants need to build vehicles powered by gravity and leg muscles. Of course, the brakes and steering need to be fully functional. You build your racer, go to the top of a slope, and let gravity do its thing.

Red Bull says the fastest one to reach the finish line will be “looked upon as favourable for winning the race”, but that’s not the only requirement to win. Participants will also be judged on creativity and showmanship.
