What is the Red Bull Soapbox Race?

In a typical tongue-in-cheek manner, Red Bull describes its soapbox race as the “pinnacle of non-motor-racing”. These races are held on a variety of city courses across the world, but the basic concept remains the same – local amateur entrants need to build vehicles powered by gravity and leg muscles. Of course, the brakes and steering need to be fully functional. You build your racer, go to the top of a slope, and let gravity do its thing.

Red Bull says the fastest one to reach the finish line will be “looked upon as favourable for winning the race”, but that’s not the only requirement to win. Participants will also be judged on creativity and showmanship.

Red Bull Soapbox Race registrations open

Registrations for the Hyderabad edition of the Red Bull Soapbox Race are now open, and the event will be held on March 3, 2024, at Inorbit Mall, Cyberabad from 10am onwards. Those who are interested in participating can click here to fill out the application form. The last day to register is November 15, 2023.

Participants will be required to upload a sketch of their unique soapbox concepts while applying online. Those selected will earn a place on the starting grid and receive a participation kit before they can take their designs from blueprint to reality.
